Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology

Infectious diseases are the most common diseases around the globe and in our country. In addition to general findings such as fever, there may be symptoms and signs that vary depending on the infection factor and patient-oriented conditions in infectious diseases. Nevertheless, a large group of these diseases recover with complete health and without leaving any sequels when suitable treatment is applied. Advanced diagnostic methods and use of novel antimicrobial medicines enable diagnosis and treatment of many infectious diseases.

Examination and screening tests required for diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases are performed with direct and stained microscopic studies, culture methods and serologic tests at Microbiology Laboratory of our hospital.

The Hospital Infection Control and Prevention Committee that is responsible for prevention and management of potential infections at hospital environment meets at regular intervals. Education of personnel is attached importance with various training meetings organized by the committee. Antibiotic use at the hospital to prevent resistant infections is also managed by the committee. Regarding the follow-ups and controls in accordance with national and international guidelines, the Committee works for cleanliness of hospital, hygiene in the kitchen, disinfection, sterilization, waste and laundry controls. Within this scope, consultancy is provided for both hospital personnel and the patients with regards to adult immunization.
